My Sister Monica was 55 years of age when she took her own life, on Monday the 2nd of November 1992. Monica had seemed so happy on the previous Saturday. our sister Teresa had held a party to celebrate the opening of her new pub. On the Monday I was in my Mothers house along with Monica who had taken her Yorkshire terrier pup to give to her Mother. Monica had seemed her usual self. About 3pm Monica went home to have a drink, around 5pm she telephoned her son Paul to ask him if he would post a letter for her addressed to Tracy her daughter in law. Paul didn't go to Monica's immediately, so she phoned him again, later when he went to her house he couldn't get an answer so he went home and tried to phone her. When she didn't answer the phone he went back to her house and looked through the gap in the blinds, he could see Monica sat in the chair, he knocked on the patio doors but got no response, Paul called the police who broke in. The police called for an ambulance and together tried their very best to save Monica's life, sadly they were too late! Myself and some of my sisters and other family members where waiting in the dining room but the police wouldn't let any of us see her because she was in a bad way. She was moved to Preston hospital later that evening which was one of the worst nights in our lives.
The following Monday we held Monica's funeral at St Teresa's R.C Church in Upholland.It was amazing to see how many flowers Monica had. Monica left behind 4 Sons and 9 beautiful grandchildren, some of whom she never got to see.
I wont go in to detail on how Monica ended her life because I have to take into consideration her Sons feelings. At Monica's Inquest a few months later the Coroner recorded an Open Verdict and her family welcomed that because we never know what might happen in the future.
Monica! NO ONE can harm you now, your safe in Gods arms and happy to be free with NO ONE to control you anymore.You can enjoy the parties you loved so much and remember that you are still missed, loved and remembered everyday by all your family and many friends that you had.
